The 2018 NYS report on pregnancy-related deaths called 78% of all maternal deaths and 100% of deaths from hemorrhage, mental health conditions, and cardiomyopathy “preventable.” These startling statistics highlight the urgent need for improved maternal and infant care in our community.
NOW New York must not only acknowledge our maternal health crisis but invest substantially in proven solutions. The Birthing Place offers these solutions, with our team of exceptionally experienced BIPOC maternal health professionals and stakeholders in NYC - midwives, doulas, educators, and engaged organizations - working together to advance a maternity care system that centers and responds to the community.
Our team of maternal health professionals, along with collaborative wellness providers, offer extensive reproductive health support to families in the Bronx, the poorest congressional district in New York City, to reduce maternal and infant stress and ensure family support well beyond what is traditionally available in hospitals. TBP is committed to build a lovingly-designed, supportive space for families who want safer, more holistic experiences of childbirth, through individualized prenatal, birth, and postnatal care.
